So for my GIF The Portrait digital storytelling project, I decided to use Quorra from Tron: Legacy as my inspiration.
Tron: Legacy is one of my all-time favorite movies for the music, special effects, character designs, plot, etc. I love the idea of a “digital world” existing and it’s just overall a great franchise to get into.
Quorra (played by Olivia Wilde) isn’t necessarily a huge inspiration for me, but more so a source of admiration. Throughout the movie she’s portrayed as being very pure in regards to her motives and actions. She knows a lot though reading books but doesn’t necessarily have any real knowledge of the outside world, but she’s always curious and willing to learn. She’s also amazing at driving, fighting, critically thinking, and has a beautiful way of viewing the world and is able to admire the things that regular people usually take for granted. Her features as well as her unusual haircut also make her very appealing as a character.
I don’t really find anyone (fiction or non-fiction) immensely inspiring, at least not so much where I’d want to dedicate a project to them so I just decided to use a character that I enjoyed watching.
It was very difficult to find a portrait styled image of Olivia Wilde as Quorra. Most of the pictures I found are of her profile which isn’t what was asked of this assignment. I was lucky to stumble upon this one so I quickly saved it and decided to use it. I find this photo of Quorra very interesting because it’s one of the very few that are in black and white. The Tron: Legacy franchise prides themselves on the hypnotic and electrifying lights and colors that are shown all throughout the movie and on their products so to have this photo be in just black and white really made it stand out from the rest.

So I am currently taking Motion Graphics 1 (FA 284) and my first assignment was to come up with an original character, create a background story for them, and then create a composite using Photoshop of an important event in that character’s life.
In this image that I created using about 20 different photos taken from the internet, I portrayed my character’s parents being abducted by other life forms.
This project was extremely fun to do because I literally had to think of everything myself and build upon my ideas in order to create one complex image.
This took me about 8+ hours to do in Photoshop, and as a person who is a complete newbie when it comes to using Photoshop, I am very proud of the outcome.

This is the final composition image of a project that I had to do for my Hacking & Building class. The objective was to disassemble an old electronic and make it into a piece of art that is essentially aesthetically pleasing to the eye, while also taking into account symmetry and order. This was so much fun to do and also very stressful to execute. I must have spent about 3 hours alone just rearranging the order of the pieces so that it can look appealing like the image above.
Even if you don’t have this class, I strongly recommend doing this if you’re ever bored or just feel like being creative and pushing yourself artistically.
I’m so excited to see what this class brings me at the end of the semester. I plan on blogging, doing the digital story projects, commenting, doing the weekly reflections, being involve into my personal website, being on time and also possibly creating an event organizer. One assignment I plan on doing is blogging because I’ve always been interested in it and have thought of doing it for awhile, so I believe starting to do it in this class will brighten my horizon, an example of blogging is http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/renegade-teacher/. Another assignment I am really thinking of doing is the event organizer, I feel like it would be extremely interesting especially since you’re able to create whatever you want, one event assignment that caught my eyes is this example right here http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/reverse-audio-quiz-2/. I think The professors are given us the option to do whichever assignment we want to do because this class is about creativity, expressing yourself, your ideas without being limited to anything. It might change but I plan on checking the site like 3-7 days a week for at least 20 minutes especially since I am trying to expand my creativity and learn from everyone. Yes, I have considered that I may not get full credits for an assignment that’s why I plan on doing as much as I can “just in case”. I chose this GIF because I found it relate-able especially when I haven’t workout in awhile and I go back and have an amazing workout even though I didn’t feel like going to workout. http://i.imgur.com/xxruaAH.gif
I’ve been a pretty active member of the media/tech world for a while now. My main pride and joy is my Flickr account. I also have a Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube channel, and have been on these social networking sites for a few years now. I’ve used iMovie in high school in order to shoot, edit and publish short videos and movies that I either starred in or helped to produce. I’ve worked with a wide range of media tools starting from a $3,000 film camera to a handheld camcorder. I currently use a digital camera when taking images or shooting videos and use Photoshop Express Editor as well as Windows Movie Maker for editing. I have never used Adobe’s Photoshop, Illustrator, or After Effects but would definitely love to learn how to utilize them for future projects and ideas I may want to build on and create.
This is a picture I took of my friend, Jason, to commemorate the first snow of last year’s Winter. I love how the colors of this image make it look like he’s melting into the scenery. I enjoy photography because I’m able to capture moments like these.
Note: Also, if you would like, check out my YouTube channel and watch the two videos I edited starring a few of my friends.
