Say It Ain’t SoOoOOOoo🎤

I cannot believe how fast the semester is finishing up:

Over the semester, I learned how to make gifs using Photoshop and imgur.com. where I made a few gifs. I learned how to make memes using photoshop and learned that Helvetica is a great font.

In class, we learned how to make multi-faced portraits. This portrait of Alfonsina Storni is one of my favorite posts, it was cool/challenging to edit the layers.

One of the posts I had difficulty with was the week we focused on the Vaporwave aesthetic. I think my end result was too cluttered, but I do like the Vaporwave art style. I think my grade for this course would be a B-or an A- because I missed one week’s post and was late on two posts. Learning Photoshop helped me start a project that would not have started without taking this class. It is so exciting, I started an Instagram page called @broadcityeverywhere. It’s a page that has Abbi & Ilana in different landscapes and I’m starting with Pride and Prejudice landscapes.

The image above took a minute because I edited the duo from the original background. You can see the original on the latest post over on my website.

Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth

Also this semester, I liked editing vintage travel posters of Peru and Venice.

This poster makes me want to travel in Italy thinking about how it is the home to thousands of rounds of parm >>

As for my website riverakatherine.com, I will keep it up and update it with some of the posts from the Broad City and Pride and Prejudice page. Thank you, Professor Ryan, and fellow CT101 classmates for making this course fun! 🙂

The Jungle Book 2016

I’m so excited for The Jungle Book, I’ve been re-watching the trailer non stop. I found this and I thought it was cool and the shots looks amazing. It’s the actors and their animal counterparts for the movie.

Copyright

Copyright is the exclusive legal right given to the original creator of a piece of work to use and to give permission for others to use. I think copyright is important because it protects the credit of the original piece of work, but I also think that in some cases it shouldn’t matter. For example if someone is posting a video of a dance rehearsal or a dance performance and it uses a song, I don’t think copyright should matter. It’s not like the person is blatantly trying to steal the song and use it as their own so it shouldn’t matter whether they have permission to use the song or not. That’s just called being annoying.

One copyright issue that I looked up and found interesting was Rogers vs. Koons. Art Rogers was a photographer who shot a photograph of a couple holding puppies. He sold this photograph for use in greeting cards and other products. Jeff Koons was a renowned artist who used Rogers picture to create a bunch of statues. Koons made a large amount of profit off of these statues and Rogers sued for copyright. The outcome is that Koons lost because the similarities were way too close for his work to be considered a parody of Rogers picture. In this case copyright was important because Koons blatantly copied Rogers work and just turned it into a statue.

have several seats

In a situation where something is used as a foundation to build off of in order to create something different, copyright shouldn’t be a problem because it’s not the same exact thing. There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by something and using it to create something different, but there is something wrong with taking something using it with one change made to it and claiming it as your own.

you tried but not really

SO GOOD…SO FAR

Me going into this like ‘I got this’

I’m pleased that the CT 399 class was able to take the time out to give us advice on my class. That’s something that I really needed to hear. I’m happy that all the students kept their websites going after the CT class. That is something that I definetely plan to do.

One thing that is mentioned that I feel is very important is taking responsibility of your work that it published on the site. Everything that I have posted are topics I feel strongly about or blog posts that were sent to me that I received PERMISSION to post. As long as I have received permission to post someone else’s work, I am taking responsibility for it.

One thing I haven’t done yet is posting my constructed experiments. I used the green room one time for the ‘Inspirational Person Lesson,’ but I did not add it to my site. It is not that I am not pleased with it. I just want to find the perfect way to add it to my site (page, post, etc).
