This class has been really interesting and out of most of the work I’ve done for this class I liked making digital projects. The most interesting work I’ve done in this class is finding or making reaction gifs. This was interesting for me because I was able to look for media that I liked and turn it into something that would describe how I was feeling during the assignment. One of the works that wasn’t so interesting was figuring out how to photo shop images. I still don’t really understand how to edit images or fix them up in a way where they will move in a funny way or change the coloring in the background. I think if I could make my own cartoon characters for a show that would inspire me to create, reflect and post on it. I like watching lots of cartoons and this would inspire me because anything can happen in cartoons like when they pull random objects from behind their backs or get superpowers in an instant. What makes this course a little difficult is keeping up with the new assignments that are posted every week. But this an easier course for me because you can do any of the assignments you like even if you don’t get all the points for it. I just try my best to get as much as I can done so that I can get enough points for the class.

My Inspiration WR#10

I don’t necessarily have a someone who inspires me but since we can look from anywhere I decided to choose someone choose one who came close. I don’t necessarily have a someone who inspires me but since we can look from anywhere I decided to choose someone choose one who came close. I chose a character from a japanese manga/anime that I watched called One Piece.

That is Monkey D. Luffy. He is around the age of 16-18 and from the wanted posted you may or may not tell that he is a wanted pirate but for all the wrong reasons. In the world of One Piece pirates exist who venture for gold, booze and of course women. At a young age of maybe 10 Luffy became friends with a powerful pirate named Shanks and made a promise that he would become the greatest pirate. He also ate a Devils Fruit. They are fruit that give you powers of the devil. The fruit Luffy ate called the Gomu Gomu fruit which means rubber. So as you guessed he’s a rubber boy. The down side to these devil fruits is that you cannot swim a big set back for a pirate. His dream is to find the treasure One Piece. A treasure hidden away by Gold D. Roger in his final words before execution.

Now onto the part where he some how inspires me. Luffy is a carefree optimistic teen. He doesn’t let anything stop him from becoming the greatest. From his personality some think he is not considerate of others but he is. He cares for the people he calls his family. You ask for help he will be there to help you all you have to do is ask. Luffy also has a right of justice. He helps those who he thinks are living a unfair life or is being tormented by a pirate. He fights for the things he believes and does not budge an inch no matter how many times people try to persuade him. Being captain of his ship he isn’t the most intelligent haha. Everybody in his crew knows this but they still follow him and call him captain. I think that shows a lot about him. For someone who isn’t that intelligent, does everything head on, and is still able to have a crew makes him a born leader. There is never a dull moment with Luffy and I love it.

With this portrait Luffy is worth 300,000,000 Beli(there currency) from my description it is hard to believe he has done enough damage to be worth so much. The fact that he is smiling in a wanted post is also a bit humorous. Being worth that much is a very big deal but he doesn’t seem to care. He actually wants everyone know he exists and will be the one to find the treasure One Piece.

Not going so well WR#9

Since the beginning of class we’ve done a lot of work. In my case the most interesting thing that I’ve done is probably making the GIF as my first digital storyingtelling assignment. The least intersting is probably thinking of what to write in general. I’m not a writer and I believe that the things I do aren’t that interesting in general. So just the thinking process was and is the least interesting. In order to get myself inspired I decided to write about games since that’s mostly what I do when I’m home, chores are done along with homework. I’ve seen a lot of reviews on the games I played and I’ve seen some games that had an entirely wrong rating in my belief. I took the idea of making game game reviews from DS106 Assignment Bank.

What makes this project generally hard is that I’m so used to being told what to do and how the class will be with a syllabus. So when I’m told I can do whatever I want and write a blog post whenever I want is quite hard. Since I’m not uesd to blogging like some people are and I like to keep to myself its quite difficult. What makes this class a bit easier is that the Weekly Reflections have a date as to when we must complete it. That for me is easy enough. There is something in the calender with a time stamp and it also gives me a reminder to myself that “Oh I have to at least put one blog post of what I want up.”

By completing the progress check-in I realized there wasn’t a lot of my own blog posts that are not school related. I just don’t have enough posts up in general. I want to be able to look on my site and is mostly blogs about what I find interesting. Sadly enought I don’t think a lot of what I do is interesting to other people. My commenting has also been nonexistent. I want to change this and start reading on my other classmates blogs or even other blogs that have the same class after mine. My motivation as of now will be my grades. I want to get a good grade in this class and the only way I will, is by posting more content that I find statisfying. Even though there is a short time I actually want to make my motivation more about both sharing and my grades. Just thinking about grades would make it seem just a bit stale. Hopefully I can pull through and have a different mind set.

LED Tie Project (midterm for H&B)

I am currently in a class called Hacking and Building. We just finished out Midterms and I thought I should share with everybody what I did. I don’t really have a name for what my project is called but I’ll just say it’s a tie with LED lights. I was planning on doing another project but that failed so i’l leave that out. I am currently in a class called Hacking and Building. We just finished out Midterms and I thought I should share with everybody what I did. I don’t really have a name for what my project is called but I’ll just say it’s a tie with LED lights. I was planning on doing another project but that failed so i’l leave that out. I decided to just lay out the text then send you to a link much easier. Now onto the project I did:

For my project I decided to use the spaceship interface instead.  This portion was going to be implemented into my first idea. But since that first idea failed I decided to just use this idea and it worked out well. My inspiration came from the tie that I had seen during class, where the LEDs lit up according to ones voice. I thought it would be cool if I can do the same without the cool voice sensor added in replaced with just a button.

TOOLS:

1 TIE
5 220OHM RESISTORS
1 10 KILO OHM RESISTORS
7 JUMPER WIRES
SAUDERING IRON
1 PUSH BUTTON
5 LEDS(RED, BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, WHITE)

STEP 1:

The first thing I did was placed the resistors for the LEDs and a jumper wire in there designated places. on the left side of the breadboard the resistors being placed are being used a the power for the positive end of the LED that I will placed there. These resistors are 220 OHM. On the right side of the breadboard a jumper wire is placed on the ground end while the 10 KILOHM resistor is placed on the power end. These two are components will work for the third component which is push button.

STEP 2:

I then set the jumper wires to there designated digital pins on the Arduino. From the start got confusing from which color was going to be on the what pin. I had to put different jumper wire cables. I wanted all the wire to be white for the negative side of the LED but there was only sadly four. So I used a blue jumper wire instead for the last LED and I used a green jumper wire for the push button.

STEP 3:

Next I got acquired a hold of some telephone phones which I used as an extension from the tie to the breadboard. The soldering machine I used was actually from home so the soldering was very easy and it burned faster than it would be if I used the ones in class. I used the red telephone wires for positive and the black for the negative. The jumper wire is where the negative wire would go and the positive would go to the 220 OHM resistors. I placed them all to one side so I would have less problematic.

CODING

capture1

For the coding I added a new data type. It’s called unsigned long. It is like another other int or long data type but it extends it variables to 32bits. I placed a Serial.begin since I will be working with a serial monitor. I am following the spaceship interface project. So there will be more outputs then there will be an input. This first set of coding is simple in the void setup.

capture3

So my code doesn’t look so bland I decided to do add a Time process to it. The time I used was Milliseconds. The timer actually resets after 50 days. Once the program starts the timer will start. Because it is a small timer the delay has to be at 1000 or less the numbers will get larger and will be a problem. Serial.println prints out the number times. When in the Serial Monitor after waiting a second you can see the timer go up. When I used my project the timer goes slower. When not used the timer goes faster.

For the button when it not pressed the white LED will be on. All the other pins will be on HIGH and the circuit will ground all the others. When I pressed the push button, because all of the pins are on LOW they all work but with a twist. Since I placed the delays for all 5 pins 250, 150 in a pattern as seen the colors go down in a row in a loop.

I will have a video up and running soon :D

As we near the half-way point in the semester, it’s time to reflect upon all the work that I’ve done so far and the quality of said work.

The most interesting work that I’ve done so far for this class is my Tron: Legacy Turns Into A Gif Legacy post. Even though it’s a very simple gif that anyone could do, I myself came up with the idea to make the lights flash on the suits, and I was able to put my mind to it, figure out what I had to do in Photoshop to get it done, and execute it. It was a simple but very creative idea and I hope to do more of this type of work in the future.

My least interesting work that I’ve done is The Masked Man. I haven’t learned how to blend two images together in Photoshop yet so the gif looks very rough and unprofessional. I wanted to make it look like his head itself is actually moving, rather than just his face. So this is something that I will probably come back to in the future after I’ve become better acquainted with Photoshop.

I really haven’t felt very inspired to create more original and creatively challenging work and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I’m not experiencing and submerging myself with enough inspiration. I decided to visit Vimeo after seeing something on Tumblr that had linked a video to the site. I started to browse around and stumbled upon an animation named Lost In The Train Station and right after watching it, I was immediately inspired to create my own cartoon characters and possibly animate them.

Compared to traditional classes, this class is difficult because it’s completely up to the student to figure out which assignments they’re interested in and which projects would be able to bring out their creativity the most. For someone who isn’t used to consistently dishing out so many artistic works, it can be especially challenging. I’m a writer, so writing lengthy blog posts is no big deal for me, but to have to familiarize myself with a foreign program like Photoshop and constantly shoot out new content by using it and learning as I go, can be a bit hard to keep up with. I suppose what makes it easier is that this class isn’t a lecture class but rather a class dedicated to working on whatever you want/need to, and that really helps a lot seeing as how I don’t have Photoshop installed at home so this class time is the only time where I’m able to work on things.

In regards to my work progress in this class, I think I’m definitely where I need to be at. I’ve created a good amount of blog posts, all the reflections, and two of the three digital storytelling projects that have been officially suggested. I do think I need to create more gifs and find more prompts that aren’t necessarily assigned but may be interesting to do for a change. I will continue to browse through Tumblr, Vimeo and YouTube to find inspiration and the motivation to create new original content that I can be proud of and that people can look at and be inspired by as well.
