What I Think About The Computer Technology Class

CT101 has definitely been a different kind of experience for me. At first the course was challenging because I had ZERO idea how to even make a GIF. However I am glad I took this class because I did learn a few things about making a great website layout and I learn what trolling meant.

My very first GIF comes from one of first blog post for the class. It was a reaction GIF i made from a video I took of the kids dancing at my cousin’s baby shower.

Although I did learn some things in the class, would I take another CT course?

So What?

So as you guys know I projected that my site would mainly be about music. However, this is a fair and clear warning that the majority of the post (if not all) that you see under this one (but mainly in the “In Other New Section“) will not be about music. Unfortunately with the amount […]

However, this is a fair and clear warning that the majority of the post (if not all) that you see under this one (but mainly in the “In Other New Section“) will not be about music. Unfortunately with the amount of time (or should I say lack of time)

I have, I need make up a “post quota”.

Also I know I have been posting like crazy to get to my 55 post quota so I have been flooding you guys feeds but you know what:

I have to get my A some how

So it’s the end of the semester and I had to do an analysis paper on this play called “Strange Worlds In My Mind” written and directed by Kristine Lee. She is an Asian woman that one day saw an afro-futurism exhibit in a Harlem museum and thought it would be a great idea to write a play pertaining to black history. EXACTLY my first reaction was:

The play was absolutely horrible. The based of the play was about a guy named Sun Ra and the struggles of black people. Okay, so someone please tell me what Kristine Lee knows about the “struggles of black people”. The play was very strange as are her other plays. Don’t believe me about how terrible her plays are? Here is a article in the New York Times about her most recent play entitled “War Lesbian”.  Lee has this way of seeing the world in a weird and crazy way and wanted to do her best to display that in theater. My opinion? Give it a rest sweetie.

After writing and handing in my analysis of the play the TA490 professor gave me B on the paper stating that it wasn’t enough details as to why the play was terrible. However that was by far the worst class/professor I have had yet. I am so glad the semester is over and with that being said:

Sun Ra 1

Sun Ra was born Herman Blount on May 22, 1914 in Birmingham, Alabama. For many years there wasn’t much information to be found about Sun Ra’s childhood. However being that Birmingham was an important stop for touring musicians, Sun Ra was able to see many famous musicians growing up. This is believed to have helped encourage his interest in music. Being that Sun Ra was a very skilled pianist that was able to compose and sight read music at the age of about 11 he was offered his first full-time musical job in 1934 at the age of 20. He toured with Ethel Harper’s, his biology teacher, group where shortly after he took leadership of the group renaming them The Sonny Blount Orchestra. Sun Ra’s style of music is often associated with Big Band and Jazz music of his time but he was able to come up with his own version of avant-garde space jazz called Afro-Futurism.

Sun Ra’s music is unique because I brings about the true meaning of Afro-Futurism which is a mixture of historical and science fiction, as well as Afro-Centricity. This sense of Afro-Futurism affected his performances as well because the whole band would dress up in these very flashy robes and headdresses. These types of clothing weren’t typical of an orchestra. Of course this type of very different music wasn’t the best to some, but many people loved Sun Ra. I believe it was because of his ability to use historical encounters with a science fiction twist that really stuck with people. That is truly the philosophy of Sun Ra, to be able to teach the struggle of black people and “black music” with a nice sound that draws people in. One artist of today that has been influenced by Sun Ra is Andre 3000, a member of group OutKast. Andre 3000 is well known for his futuristic type of music, and his very bold and unusual sense of style.
