Tron: Legacy is one of my all-time favorite movies for the music, special effects, character designs, plot, etc. I love the idea of a “digital world” existing and it’s just overall a great franchise to get into.
Quorra (played by Olivia Wilde) isn’t necessarily a huge inspiration for me, but more so a source of admiration. Throughout the movie she’s portrayed as being very pure in regards to her motives and actions. She knows a lot though reading books but doesn’t necessarily have any real knowledge of the outside world, but she’s always curious and willing to learn. She’s also amazing at driving, fighting, critically thinking, and has a beautiful way of viewing the world and is able to admire the things that regular people usually take for granted. Her features as well as her unusual haircut also make her very appealing as a character.
I don’t really find anyone (fiction or non-fiction) immensely inspiring, at least not so much where I’d want to dedicate a project to them so I just decided to use a character that I enjoyed watching.
It was very difficult to find a portrait styled image of Olivia Wilde as Quorra. Most of the pictures I found are of her profile which isn’t what was asked of this assignment. I was lucky to stumble upon this one so I quickly saved it and decided to use it. I find this photo of Quorra very interesting because it’s one of the very few that are in black and white. The Tron: Legacy franchise prides themselves on the hypnotic and electrifying lights and colors that are shown all throughout the movie and on their products so to have this photo be in just black and white really made it stand out from the rest.

Upon completing half of the Fall 2014 semester I am writing this blog post to give some feedback about my Computer Technology class (CT101). The most interesting work I have done so far has to be the digital story telling projects that I do based off of the DS106 assignment bank. I although the projects my professor and his colleague have designed for us to do have been fun sometimes, it kind of sucks when you are told exactly what to do and how to do it. It kind of hinders your ability to express your creativity to the fullest. The reflections have been the least interesting because I felt like they were kind of forced and not free flowing. What makes this course difficult is although it is an introductory class it is one of the most time consuming intro classes I can remember taking. The thing that makes it easy is that your grade is based on a point system; well at least I thought it would be the easiest. The only reason this has become a problem is because as a student we can’t be for certain how many points we actually have and there is no set “check point” times. I think I am in the 300/400 points range, I would like to get an A in this class but it’s seeming a little impossible being that it’s almost November and I still haven’t gotten word from my professor exactly where I am point wise. My motivation is definitely getting an A in the class, nothing else really matters; just want to do well.
Posted in my website 🙂 check it out! I created a GIF that I worked really hard on!
The assignment was:
Create an image, GIF, video, and/or piece of audio that reworks a quote and/or image found in any of the linked essays from reflection 7 & 8. Think about possibly creating a poster that uses an image and quote. Or create a video or audio remix that samples from the Andy Baio and/or Larry Lessig talks. Or maybe come up with something on your own that is inspired by these discussions. In your post, remember to use links to reference texts incorporated in your work as well as give context to the work.
I chose the part to create a GIF of my own that was inspired by the discussions.

This week’s digital storytelling project comes from DS 106 assignment bank. For this assignment I was asked to find a picture of a celebrity of my choice and find a quote about that celebrity that links the two together and makes sense. The quote I found is from a Biggie verse from the song Brooklyn’s Finest when he says “If Fay had twins she’d probably have two Pacs. Get it?… Tu Pac’s”. There was some notorious (no pun intended) “beef” between Tupac and Biggie at some point of time in their rap careers. In Tupac’s song Hit Em Up he makes a claim that he had a sexual encounter with Biggie’s wife, and in return was Biggie’s line in Brooklyn’s Finest. I think what Biggie was trying to make a joke to show that they he wasn’t affected by Tupac’s statement. This picture I choose is of Faith Evans and Tupac together. Although no one but them can be sure of what happened, the quote and picture goes together because this is the same picture that the tabloids used when these allegations first came to surface. Plus Faith Evans and Tupac look real cozy together in this picture.
Once again I was able to add text to this picture using the app Aviary. I love this app because it is easy to use and gets the job done in seconds. I think this assignment was a great idea, and I plan to use it to help inspire me for my event planning posts.
Here is the song Brooklyn Finest that featured Biggie, the lyrics I mention are from 3:13-3:18
