Week 2 – Tues – 2/6 & Thurs – 2/8 – Logging into our class blog and getting familiar with the wordpress interface – Lets post our first assignment – Making me happy post as well as making our first GIF! My first GIF post
Imgur and Giphy are great platforms to explore and create with! Sign up for both, its free! This week, outside of class please create a NEW blog post and embed a new Reaction GIF that speaks your feelings about our class and what the potentials are (yes, you can make more than 1!).
Week 3 – Tues – 2/13 & Thurs – 2/15 – Lets take a look at some of those Reaction GIFs that you made! Students will share their highlights from this first experience.
Lets dig into this assignment, its chock full of useful information – Flexibility in the kinds of Digital Storytelling projects you do.
And, here is another assignment to get your creative juices flowing! Are Memes Art? What do you think? Will you respond by making a Meme to share you feelings??
Week #4 – Tues – 2/20( CUNY follows a Monday class Schedule) & Thurs – 2/22 –

Did you read through post last week? OK< you were too busy making Memes, so lets dig into it this week! There is a ton of great information here, what will you select and why? – Flexibility in the kinds of Digital Storytelling projects you do.
Week #5 – Tues -2/27 & Thurs – 2/29 –
The GIF the Portrait project <— Click the link to investigate and prepare for classroom awesomeness. Continued GIF making techniques using Adobe photoshop. Image manipulation exercises. Each student will contribute to the class collaboration and publish a individual blog post about the process to CT101.us
***If you missed last week’s class it might be a good idea to come in to class a little earlier to get help on understanding this assignment.
Week #6 – Tues -3/6 & Thurs – 3/8 –
- Select one single frame from your 8×10 inch GIF the Portrait GIF frames (from last week’s class session – review it here ) and e-mail it to me – Rseslow@york.cuny.edu
2. Read this post and get to work on on it! You can easily apply the photoshop skills we have thus far learned in our class. Post your work to CT101.us.
Week #7 – Tues – 3/13 & Thurs – 3/15 –
Exciting Times! Its time to start building your own personal blog’s! Read this – Picking a Domain Name, Getting a Web hosting Account, and Installing WordPress
***Note – please wait to get started on this if you are NOT in attendance during class-time this week. I will walk you through the process the following week. In the meantime, complete both assignments from week #6.
Week #8 – Tues – 3/20 & Thurs – 3/22 – NO LAB Session.
***The Tuesday 3/20 & Thursday 3/22 CT101 sections will not meet this week in our lab session as I am ill.
Basic Operations of your Site <– Explore this link. Each student will write a new blog post where they discover and share (hyperlinks) of a series of “newbie” wordpress tutorials on customizing a new WordPress website. (lots of content out there) What questions do you have about your new website? How will you go about resolving them and finding resources? Put it all in a new blog on YOUR website.
Week #9 – Tues – 3/27 & Thurs – 3/29
A lot of you are off to a great start with your personal sites. From here on in, you will be reporting your work on the site in the weekly check-in.
****I would like you to let me know what your new site URL is and give a couple other pieces of information as well. Use this form to let me know.
This week in class we will run through some basic WP tutorials, plug-ins and organizing our sites with pages, categories and more.

Week #10 – Tues -4/10 & Thurs 4/12
Conversations about copyright. Read this blog post and find an article or a post about a copyright issue of interest to you. Describe your understanding of the law and the case presented and document this in a blog post on your website.
Also continue to research the ds106 assignment repository or the daily create for blogging inspiration as you continue to work on digital storytelling assignments. Remember, you should be publishing at least 1-2 blog posts each week.

Week #11 – Tues – 4/17 & Thurs 4/19
1. Its time to Share your Website URL – Read this now!
2. Lets get creative! Perhaps you will consider using an artifact from an archive and using it for a bit of remix! There’s a great DS106 assignment from a few years back that is still popular which asks you to rework the message of a propaganda poster into one for this class. Consider any of the techniques and tools previously used in class to make something from the archives.

1. Creative ZINE Project! Lets dive into a Cross CUNY Zine Project with BMCC MMA 100 Graphic Design Students! Read This and lets get started!

Week #14 – Tues – 5/8 & Thurs – 5/10
Part 1 – Students will go here <—- to read and respond to the Collaborative zine project between our CT101 classes and BMCC graphic design students. Please make sure you comment on the project as a whole as well as selecting your favorite piece to comment on!
Part 2 – Use the class as a lab session to complete pending assignments and prepare for your presentation.

***CT101 Final Class Presentations & Final Blog Post Information***

- **Final Website Presentations: Each student will be presenting their personal websites to the class on the date listed below. Students will give a short-guided tour and share successes, frustrations and an over-all assessment of our course. Each student will have 5 minutes to do this. Your website presentation is Mandatory.
*The Tuesday section of CT101 will give their final website presentations on TUESDAY 5/22 from 10AM-12PM
*The Thursday section of CT101 will give their final website presentations on THURSDAY 5/24 from 10AM -12PM
2.***Final Blog Post Submission – Each student will publish a Final Class Assessment blog post to their own website. You will E-Mail the link of this blog post to me ( ryan (at) ryanseslow.com or rseslow (at) york.cuny.edu ) no later than Thursday 5/24 at Midnight. Your final blog post is Mandatory.
The final blog post will be a detailed re-cap of what you have learned in CT101, what you enjoyed about our class and how you will apply your new skills into the world. Will you maintain and keep up your website? If so, how? If not, Why not? Your post should include a culmination of images, videos, GIFs, hyperlinks and writing. Please let this post display the best of your skills sets learned and applied! (Images, GIFs, Hyperlinks and supporting Verbaige!)
