After watching this video about gif’s I have to say that I couldn’t agree more. Gif’s have slowly but surely changed the way people interact with each other online. Creating gif’s is a new way of communication to many online networks such as Tumblr, and even Twitter. The video discusses gifs and how they have made a large impact, one thing that really caught my attention in the video was the section dedicated to cinema graphs. I’ve seen them online before but I didn’t know the name of the images until now. Cinema graphs are images that we see where people take footage and make everything still except for a one or a few small components. So it appears that the image is still until the moving part of the image captures your attention. I’ve seen a lot of cinema graphs that are fashion inspired, and I’m very interested in making one. Although I don’t have the time to start that project now, as finals week is fastly creeping up on us, it will be one of the first things I turn my attention to this summer.

Space girl

I’ve seen a lot of images like this one on Tumblr,  so I decided to make one myself. Doing this was fairly easy. I’ve seen a lot of images like this one on Tumblr,  so I decided to make one myself. Doing this was fairly easy. I found a silhouette of a girl and I decided that I wanted her to be filled with a space background. After finding both images that I wanted to use I imported them into Photoshop and arranged the background over the silhouette and added a clipping mask, which gave me this effect! It was fairly simple to do, next time I try this project I think I’m going to take it a step further by adding more effects to the image, such as playing with it’s opacity and adding different color effects.space girl

Final Project

After Effects was difficult for me to use at first, but after a while I got the hang of it. It’s a pretty straight forward program but somethings were a bit tedious to do. For example, I wanted to reuse a scene that I had in the beginning of them film, but it order to do so I had to copy and paste all of those layers and reposition them to come back at the time I wanted them too. That proved to be one of the most difficult things to do, but other than that I enjoyed the project and I look forward to exploring After Effects more.

Today in class we recreated sound for the Charlie Chaplin short film “The Lions Cage”. Although the film already had sounds, we recreated it as a class using the foley method. We were split up into groups and each group was given a piece of the film to work with. This method was effective, because it kept things organized by designating a group of people to a specific scene. Everyone had time to find props to create the sound for their scenes. The end product was great! Everyone used really unique sounds to achieve the sound that they were going for. In the end the recorded sound was pretty much fully in-sync with the movie! It came out awesome. Before we started the project we first watched a few videos learning about the foley method. Before watching the video it never occurred to me that the creators of old Disney movies had to man make sound as well using this method. I knew that they had to hand draw everything but I never put much thought into how they created the sounds. It was mind blowing to realize how much work truly went into the old movies that are now classics. Playing around with sound is something I can see my self experimenting more with in the future.
