During the CT101 course, I gained an enormous amount of information dealing with learning about constructing a blog post, the importance of Gifs and the use of hyperlinks. Towards the beginning of the semester, the professor introduced me and my fellow classmates to the world of Gifs. Of course now a days everybody knows what a GIF may be but I learned that a Gif can be way more then a moving image or a image with or without words in it.
A Gif can express ones emotions at a specific moment in time with an image, with or without captions. Gifs can be so useful especially when you don’t know how to express yourself in that moment in time and words cant describe how your feeling. We later then began to tell a story with reaction Gifs about the class at that point in time along with some of the potentials we may reach. In order to do this we used Imgur and Giphy to help us find the best memes that could show our reactions to how the class was going. This wasn’t a hard task for me because I knew what kind of story I wanted to create using the Gifs.
We then moved on to the topic of memes and questioning if memes could be considered art. My answer was art is an expression of ones feeling through a different way other than writing. Art can be demonstrated through drawings, paintings, memes and etc. Memes can be defined as a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc. This then transitioned us into actually creating our own memes describing how we felt about Ct101 up to that point in time and this is what I came up with:
With creating this meme I learned that if you want to include text on an image, you have to choose a text color that complements the background color. In this instance, my background color is a sky blue so I decided to use white text in order for the words to be shown clearly. I also learned when making a meme that the placing of where you want to put your text is critical. This is due to you not wanting the words to cover the image that your trying to display. There needs to be a balance between color and placing of the text within the image. This was a small peace of work but it felt like a big accomplishment in the class due to me never doing this type of work before.
After this, we transitioned into panoramic storytelling with multiplicity. When the professor first began to explain what we were going to be doing I knew exactly what the panoramic option was on the phone but I never understood how to use it. I had to team up with other individuals and make a story out of the pano mode with the photos we took. My group members and I went to various locations to shoot these photos and each photo had there own story to it. I learned while in pano mode an individual would have to stand in a certain spot at the beginning. While moving the phone slowly to the right the same individual would have to move behind the person taking the picture and pose for when the camera comes to the other spot you chose to pose at. My group members and I had so much fun during this process and it was such a learnable moment for me not only through the professor but through my group members as well.
The topic of copyright then came up and this was very interesting to me. I learned that when a person copyrights something the exclusive right given to the creator of a creative work to reproduce the work, usually for a limited time. We then watched a video of different clips from Disney animated films explaining what and how to use copyrighting in a proper manner. I then realized that there are so many individuals that have the same idea at the same exact time and the difference between one person and the rest can be that this one person put their idea into effect and copy-wrote their work first. Copyrighting your work is well recommended as well due to the possibility of one wanting to go further with their idea. This topic taught me what to do if I was to ever want to push an idea and take it far.
I honestly did enjoy this class not only because of the work we were doing but also because of the professor. The professor was so understanding and his style of teaching was different from any other that iv’e seen. I believe that I deserve a C+ in this course because I completed the majority of the work but I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to create a website due to personal issues that have been occurring. As far as the certain skills that I have learned throughout the course, I will be looking forward to applying them to my future classes as well as helping individuals who want to create memes or need to ask questions about any of the topics that were covered in class. I can honestly say it was a pleasure to be apart of this course and every minute was enjoyable. I wanna say thank you to the professor for being so understanding during this course with everything that took place as well. Farewell everyone.
If I’m going to be truthful, the Corona-virus has really took a toll on my life in general as of now. To begin with, the Corona-virus took everybody from pre-k all the way up to college students out of school. I’m not going to lie, at first I was so excited due to the fact that I thought school was going to be canceled for the next couple of days. To be honest I feel like everybody was because during the time this all began, Spring Break was around the corner and me along side with some of my peers thought we was having something like an extended Spring Break.
It wasn’t until the state couldn’t set a date on when we wouldn’t return to school is when I realized how serious this could be. But, the concern for the virus wasn’t in my worries because neither me or anyone I knew contracted the virus or really talked about it being so detrimental as it would soon become. During the time I was working at Home Goods and have been working their consistently for 4 months. 2 weeks after schools were canceled, I received a phone call from my job telling me that I have been laid off due to stores having to close because of the Corona-virus. This call made me feel so upset and left me in disbelief because I honestly thought that I would be working there for a while, this job out of so many I had was the most enjoyable and this job was my only source of income.
Things were becoming very serious and I knew this because if an whole store has to close down due to them not wanting the virus to spread then they were going to soon close down other facilities. Shortly after, the announcement was made that we will still be attending school but it will be held online. I wasn’t very fond on the idea of taking classes online and I’m still not. This online schooling has been very difficult to me because I learn better when I’m sitting in a classroom and when a Professor can actual demonstrate what they actually need me to do. On a computer, I feel a sense of confusion when a Professor is trying to teach as well as knowing I could become easily distracted from home. This was a difficult transition from going to class everyday, never once taking an online class to taking online classes everyday like it was normal.
Taking online classes hasn’t been easy but since I had no choice, I had to suck it up and do what I had to do. Through this whole process my parents have been still working because there job still required them to come in even though this deadly disease is going around. About 3 weeks ago my mother wasn’t feeling well and told everybody that she wasn’t feeling like her normal self, so me and my family just told her to rest and maybe take a day off of work because all this stress from the corona-virus and her having to interact with customers probably made her extremely tired physically and mentally. The next day she expressed to me that she really wasn’t feeling well and that she had a fever and was coughing very often. To come to find out a couple of days later that she contracted the virus and was very sick. As a family, we decided not to take her to the hospital due to many individuals dying, so instead we took the proper precautions and kept her home. We were taking care of her 24/7 the way she described the pain she was feeling. It was honestly just heart aching because there wasn’t much we could really do but sanitize everything she touched to keep from everybody else in the house from contracting it as well as making sure she ate and constantly giving her hot liquids to drink. At this point I was so overwhelmed and honestly felt like giving up on school and every other thing I was doing.
About 2 weeks later she started to feel better and start walking around and doing her normal routines around the house. She then returned to work this last Monday so everything went back to normal in a sense. At first, this Corona-virus was beating me up but it wasn’t that I contracted the virus, it was the mental aspect of it all and that was really messing me up. I had to learn through all this to never stop fighting and to continue to strive even when you feel like the odds are against you. The Corona-virus maybe was winning this battle in the beginning of it all but now I’m most definitely giving this virus a run for it’s money.
The Coronavirus is a virus that I can personally say changed the way we are living right now. This virus took everybody out of school, work and most importantly out of their right state of mind. Since there is no cure for the virus all anybody can do is find ways to prevent themselves from getting contaminated. The government has no real answers for us either and honestly, I believe this is what is scaring people the most. All people are being told to do is stay in their houses and self quarantine. The government has also told us that this epidemic could last up to 12 weeks and they seem unsure about that answer they gave. With school being strictly online now, this is very different from what I’m used to. I really don’t feel comfortable with learning through a computer screen cause I don’t feel like I am learning the way i need to as well as becoming distracted time to time. I’m going to try as hard as I can to try and stay focused during these online sessions but I can already tell it will be difficult. But with how serious this disease is it is best that we all take the proper precautions to stay safe and learning online is the only way people can stay on track with school and stay healthy. With this being said, I hope everybody stays safe and takes the proper precautions to keep themselves healthy. Stay Corona Free Everybody!!!!!
In the article they talked about the term “copyright”, what it is, what would be considered plagiarism and etc. Copyright is the exclusive right given to the creator of a creative work to reproduce the work, usually for a limited time. In the video explaining “Copyright”, the individual used Disney films to explain but what was brought to my attention was how Disney doesn’t and wont allowing anyone else to plagiarize their work but their work is basically remakes of old stories, myths, and legends from the past. This is one thing that I don’t fully get the grasp of dealing with copyright. The term can be confusing to one and I completely understand. There are so many individuals that have the same idea at the same exact time and the difference between one person and the rest can be that this one person put their idea into effect and copyright it first. Copyrighting your work is well recommended as well due to the possibility of one wanting to go further with their idea. This meme here basically represents one taking their idea and running with it.
This was everybody’s first time working in teams in this class and I was interested in who I was actually going to be in a team with. My team and I actually enjoyed ourselves working on this project because it was really different. We all wanted to go to different places and take these photos in different types of settings. In the photo at the bottom, my team and I thought this would be a good place to take a picture and it became my favorite picture out of all the ones we took. When we first started taking this photo, we had to restart about three times due to us not knowing where exactly we wanted to take the picture. Another issue we had was making it to the other side as quickly as possible to finish the photo but it was most definitely an enjoyable moment cause we all were laughing and joking about it. When we finally got it done, I enjoyed the photo and it turned out to be the one I liked the most.
