Final Blog Post


The CT101 class is a class about digital storytelling in which the students are given assignments to do that relate to the idea of conveying ideas through digital media, ie. GIFs, memes, blogging, etc. My entire semester in this class was a learning process on how to convey ideas through digital media considering that most of my classes are about writing papers, making presentations, and engaging in professional discussions. This class took an entire opposite turn of that and we did not conduct ourselves in the traditional midterm/final examination criteria, as the professor believed in a modern education system to the point that there is freedom in learning and teaching at everyone’s different pace.

What I learned from the course and the grade that I deserve:

The things that I learned from this course is that I learned to make GIFs, memes, learned how to blog, create a website, learned how to do online research to find digital media, etc. The grade that I believe I have earned in this class should be an A- because I have done all the assignments, did them on time, applied full effort in them, and did what a student was required to do in this unique course that used a unique teaching system.

What I enjoyed about the class:

What I enjoyed about the class was that it was a easy class to complete, even though it was new to learn. This was due to the flexibility in the learning process between both the student and the professor.

How I plan to use my new skills in the world:

How I will apply my new skills to the world is by using them to help in effectively communicating ideas through digital media rather than physical and/or verbal communication.

How I will run my website and why I plan to run it:

My website is a website that is mainly for the web design/development project that I will be working on after this semester. I will be doing this because I want to use it as a showcase of things that I will learn and things that I know about web design, so that it can be used as a reference for whenever needed.

How I plan to do this is by adding any knowledge that I have to the website as well adding other knowledge that I will gain from other CT courses. This will be used as a portfolio of work that will be compiled as there is more added to it in the forms of blog posts, actual work from class or from anywhere else, updates in the design industry, etc. In order to organize this all on one website, I will use the strategy of creating separate pages and categories to keep it all organized.

How the website is being used is stated above, but there is a tour about the website to be discussed. When you first click on the link and go to the website, you will see the main page in which is similar to the layout to the CT101 website. There is a post feed that updates from the most recent, widgets on the side, title of the site along with a tagline, and a communication panel at the bottom of the page. Then there is a menu that consists of all of the pages on the site. Some of those menus have a drop-down menu that contains even further information than the main page itself. The site itself is still under work, but is self explanatory as the layout is simple and right there in front of the user. Whatever you need can be a click away and has a simple design to it. There is a logo however that is posted as the header media and as the site logo, in order to advertise this as a site for web designers/developers.

My thoughts on the website:

In the process of creating the website there were a couple of successes and frustrations along the way. Some of those successes were; Having the website come out the way I wanted in relation to the look and functionality of it. Also, the website has the ability to act like a portfolio of containing many pieces of work at once. A few frustrations were; Trying to learn how to work with the interface of WordPress in customizing the website and making sure that it comes out like the way I want it instead of it being a simple looking website. My overall assessment of the website was that it came out the way expected with a little difficulty in making it, but that was due to creating a website for the first time.

    And, in the circumstances this semester.. we really had to come together to communicate and express ourselves, so many variations were shared about how the class could function. I have learned a lot from my students this semester! (as always!)
