Flexibility in the kinds of DS106 projects – millions of things to choose from!

Last week in CT101 apart from learning about the wondrous world of photoshop, we also learned about the  Flexibility in the kinds of Digital Storytelling projects you do Assignment as well. I was intrigued to find out that there are endless opportunities to creations amazing digital stories. I realized that just by choosing an exciting assignment in the DS106 assignment bank I could practically learn how to do anything.

Although we were supposed to choose two possible project ideas that we would like to try out, I was only able to narrow it down to three.

Nonetheless, the Assignments I am looking forward to trying out are the  Favorite Musician GIF, 3D Anaglyph-A-GIF, and lastly the I’m Ready For My Closeup Mashup Assignment. The reason I choose these potential assignments is that they each can be directly applied to my interests and the stories I’d like to tell in this course.

The first assignment that sparked my interest was the favorite musician gif assignment. Just from the simple instructions, to choose my favorite musician, and then find a video of them from Youtube to create a gif.  I was able to envision the musician I’d use, and a couple of different music videos I could trim for the perfect gif. I am a huge fan of music, and so it’s no surprise that I’d be drawn to this assignment. This assignment also appealed to me because I can do it using the skills I learned in CT101 thus far.

The next assignment I found on DS106 was the 3D Anaglyph-A-GIF. Although I’ve never done anything like this, I choose this assignment because the resulting image/gif is cool. For this assignment, I’ll get to use my gif making skills once again, only this time I’ll have to learn how to create a 3D Anaglyph as well. From the looks of it, I will be combining a regular gif with an effect that resembles red/cyan viewing 3D glasses. I’m not 100 % sure how I’ll manage this, but of course, I will try my best.

The last assignment that caught my eye was the I’m Ready For My Closeup assignment from the Mashup section of DS106.

Once again, I choose this assignment because it will allow me to put my creativity to the test. Also because it looks like something I’ll get to work with photoshop to create. I like this assignment because like a meme, it seems like it can be quite funny or ridiculous to randomly pair two images or scenes that don’t fit together. Making a story out of something like this looks fun!
