Sound off, 1, 2. Sound off 3, 4.

So above is the resulting video from the group foley project. Nice work all around and encouraging to see people willing to perform and be inventive on the spot. I’ve linked an old post in the calendar which describes the basics of getting started with digital audio. Hopefully some of you will find that interesting and do some work found in the ds106 audio repository or make-up a sound assignment on your own.

If you enjoyed the group assignment working together to re-track the Lion’s Cage, then you might like the idea of creating a radio show as a class. The DS106 community has a web radio station that we can access and broadcast directly to. I’ve done this in the past for interested classes, One example was a Halloween inspired show which involved students describing their most horrifying experiences in the classroom. We actually had call-ins as well via Skype which was pretty great.

For fun, here’s a sample from that show remixed to video:

And a couple more from call ins: Scottlo No Longer Undead and Mrs. Lizardo.

So if you’d like to do a radio show, think about what it might cover. Will it be a single topic/theme? Might it cover certain topics? Will there be music? Will there be samples/examples that are mixed in? Please comment below on your ideas if you’re interested as a starting point.

  1. I am interested in starting a radio show. i think that there shouldn’t be just one topic, we can just have a general topic and see where the conversation takes us from there. There should be music because thats one of the main reasons why people listen to the radio, we can also include songs from upcoming YC artist. I think the best way to go about this radio show is to go around the school and figure out what the students want to hear wether its a certain song or conversation topic.

    1. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of momentum for the radio show coming out of this post, so I’ll bring it up again on Thursday. Let’s see if we can gather additional interest possible formulate a group that wants to work on it.
