Finale or beginning? My take…

So I entered CT 101 not knowing quite what to expect. I am an educator on a study sabbatical and desired to take courses that would enhance my effectiveness as a teacher. I had already taken 12 of the 16 required credits, so I was at a loss as to what courses I would take…a professor during advising recommended that I take Professor Smith’s course…”he is an excellent instructor,  you would enjoy his course”, she said. Desperate and running out of time…I registered for the course. Upon entering class the first day, I was at a loss that we were actually a part of the design of the course. I could not believe that a professor would desire such input from students…after all, I have been engaged with traditional teaching from my days in college…I thought to myself…

So, I paid  now I was fully committed to the course. My first hurdle was understanding how to add a reaction gif to a post. I was so frustrated that I couldn’t get it…I posted about it…I kept trying until I relented and asked the college assistant to assist me…I wrote down everything he did and went home and practiced until I was able to select and put a gif in my post…hurdle number two, making a reaction gif from a video or photo. Again I struggled, but for some reason this course was so interesting, I couldn’t give up…because in the words of one of my favorite characters…

Now I am into defining what digital storytelling was…major part of my discovery. I text, write poetry, send photos and quotes and I never viewed it as a way of communicating a narrative. Once I realized that digital storytelling, in my definition was “using technology to  express my thoughts and feelings using words, pictures, videos, animations, gifs, quotes and comments” I realized that I was part of a movement…

My Digital Journey...

Digital Storytelling…what is it?                                                                                                                                                                                                     It happens while you talk or even while sit.

It can be a stroke of key, a picture or a clip,                                                                                                                                                                    You can join the movement and not get a  nail to chip.

The professor know his stuff, and  pushes you to learn,                                                                                                                                             You have to show effort to make his head turn.

So, I had  to learn to look things up if I was not sure,                                                                                                                                    However, this journey led me to want to know more!

I posted on materials that I would not have ordinarily read,                                                                                                                                          What happened is I actually broadened my digital knowledge instead.

I moved on to t-shirt making…to be or  not to be,                                                                                                                                                                I designed at least 5 shirts if you check my sight you’ll see.

Archiving was a topic that intrigued me all the more,                                                                                                                                                      I made a gif blending the old and new; my accomplishment made me soar!

I had to do a collage to tell my story using pictures,                                                                                                                                                          I used smilebox and came up with some neat creations.

Now as I end my sabbatical away from work, my WordPress site is up and running,                                                                          when I return to my job my students and colleagues will think work is stunning.

My experience with CT101 was  was slow and a novice at the beginning,                                                                                                         I feel well informed and I feel like am more competent at digital storytelling.

I totally enjoyed this experience in CT101 and my desire is to do my best to keep up my website!
