Spider-Man is now officially apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! After, being held captive by Sony Pictures Entertainment it was announced yesterday that a deal between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment had been made. This new deal would allow the web slinger to join Marvel Studios their expanding movie universe. After the Sony hack back in November, it was revealed that negotiations between Marvel Studios and Sony were in the works. Due to negative reviews of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony had to put their future Spider-Man sequels and spinoffs on hold. It was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment that Spider-Man will be recasted in hopes of revamping the franchise(for the third time now). This new Spider-Man movie will be co-produced by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Sony Entertainment’s Amy Pascal(who has overseen production of Spider-Man since 2002). Together they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the character. It is speculated that Andrew Garfield will be recasted as his contract with Sony was rumored to be finished after a 3rd Amazing Spider-Man movie was to be released.Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own, and have final creative controls of the Spider-Man films. Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films. Some potential casting for the lead role include Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien and Percy Jackson’s Logan Lerman. The new Spider-Man movie is set to hit theaters July 28,2017.
