Should I Post My Personal Work?

I’ve been working on a social experiment in times square new york city and have been video documenting this experiment. I feel as if this experiment will go viral. If it does go viral shouldn’t I be the one receiving the views or whatever other benefits come along with my video going viral? I understand my work can be copied and posted and others can reap the benefits of my work. Is this a chance i would have to take or is there something i can do for protection against these thieves ? After listening to Cory Doctorows recent Keynote at DConstruct i feel even more paranoid about releasing my work.  Im sure others feel the same.

Reflection 9

What has been the most interesting work you’ve done so far in the class and why?

The most interesting work I’ve done has to be everything on copywriting.  When I’m mot I’m school I’m always creating and worrying if people will steal my work and get paid off of it.  Also I won’t receive the credit and props I truly deserve.

What has not?

Honestly, I hate GIFs.  I think the whole concept of a GIF is stupid.  Watching GIFs gives me headaches.  I cannot complain about making them because they are rather easy to make.

What else would inspire you to create work, reflect on it, and post?

I would like to draw my own character and animate it.  Bring one of my drawings to life would be so amazing and would inspire me to draw more and bring them all to life.

What makes this course difficult in compared to other traditional courses?

For me, staying disciplined and posting on time is my biggest difficulty.

What makes it easier if at all?

Being able to post whenever I want is what makes it easy and working on computers is easier for me because I have horrible hand writing that I can’t even read sometimes.

Hello all

I watched Larry Lessig’s talk (TEDtalk) on “How creativity is being strangled by the law.

At one point when he is talking about the youth of today he states “it is technology that made them different”

He talks about how his generation used to make mixed tapes and youth today remix music. His generation watched TV and the youth today make television.

He is talking about how youth have the tools now, with technology, to do more creative things.  We, as I consider myself a youth of today  also, have much more technological choices than our parents had and we look to use the technology to move further in life.  I changed my major to be able to utilize technology in my life.

What is copyright?  Copyright the exclusive legal right that is given to a creator of something to publish or perform or do anything else with that something they created.

Why is there copyright?  it is there to protect artist from having their work copied or stolen without their permission.

How much should users of the web think about copyright as you and others share, re-share and remix content on the web?  People need to be conscious of that information which was created by others and how they use others creations but at the same time, if someone has put it on why web, then they should expect others to use it.

What is fair use?  “fair use” allows someone to use excerpts of something that is copyrighted to be used in certain circumstances including news reporting, teaching, and research, without the for permission from the copyright holder.

Cyberinfrastructure

The following is a quote from Gardner Campbell’s essay – A Personal Cyberinfrastructure. “To provide students the guidance they need to reach these goals, faculty and staff must be willing to lead by example — to demonstrate and discuss, as fellow learners, how they have created and connected their own personal cyberinfrastructures.” I felt i could […]

The following is a quote from Gardner Campbell’s essay – A Personal Cyberinfrastructure.

“To provide students the guidance they need to reach these goals, faculty and staff must be willing to lead by example — to demonstrate and discuss, as fellow learners, how they have created and connected their own personal cyberinfrastructures.”

I felt i could relate to this quote in the essay as i agree with the statement.  I often find that i learn more by someone showing me the task at least once and then letting me try it myself. Yes, I may fall on my face but it gives me a place to begin because  i have seen it done before.  Sometimes, especially  with technical information, it doesn’t explain the task in layman’s terms and i, admittedly, can  become confused before i begin.

In reading “A Personal Cyberinfrastructure” by Gardner Campbell, this quote stood out to me. I find it much easier to learn when a professor shows me how to do things. i have really understood more of how to set up this blog after watching the video.
