A Domain Name You Say…

Today in class Prof. Ryan introduced the class to this week’s assignment Picking a Domain Name, Getting a Web hosting Account, and Installing WordPress. At first, I was excited being that I was always interested in making my own personal website. However, that excitement sure enough turned into frustration when I had to select a domain name. What tops it off is that Prof. Ryan said that once we create a domain name and form our website, we can not rename it.

I understand why we can not rename it, but I definitely felt more pressure in coming up with a name even more. So as everyone is going through the process of creating their own website, I am here writing this blog post instead. Hopefully before the end of the day, I will come up with a domain name *crosses fingers*. Good Luck Everyone!

Blowing In The Wind

This week we learned how to animate a still image and adjust certain features to make it seem realistic. Before this class it was rare for me to use photoshop. The only Adobe application I would use on the regular was Lightroom. I did not use Photoshop because for some reason it seemed complicated and required a lot of time. When I would need to actually use Photoshop for something I was working on, I would tell my friend the idea I had for the image and ask him to make the adjustments in Photoshop. Upon seeing Week 4’s assignment Animated Graffiti I realized that I should no longer rely on him and learn how to use the Photoshop (since I plan on using it more frequently…eventually). What I used to think was difficult about using the program was the fact that you had to work with multiple layers, remember what layer you are on, moving the layers accordingly in the Layer Panel, and the fact that you can use a variety of tools just for one task (basically knowing the differences between the tools was annoying). For my animated image I decided to use one of my photos I had took awhile ago. The process was smooth up until I had to use the time frame panel. I was having difficulty while trying to move the leaves left to right. I kept using the move tool while in the time frame panel to do so, which lead to my previous images to be affected as well. It took some time for me to realize what was going on and the fact that I had to create separate layers distinguishing the left leaf from the right leaf. Below is my still image and the animated version.

Flexibility in Digital Storytelling

For my first assignment I decided to choose a writing assignment called A Letter to You as a Child. I didn’t feel like writing a letter to myself at a young age like 10, so I decided to go with the age of 17 (right before transitioning into college). I chose this assignment because I was able to briefly discuss something that bothered me about a friendship that I used to have and how I would have prepared myself before heading to college.

Dear Junior,

How are you doing? I know you may not believe this but my name is the same as yours. In fact, I am you, well the future version of you that is. I am writing you this letter to let you know how things are here in the future, and what you can do to make it better. I am living in the year 2017 which makes me 21 years old. You are currently 17 and you are preparing yourself to begin college soon. I sense that you are nervous about a lot, I mean who wouldn’t be. I felt the same way too when I was your age. You’re more or less worried about whether or not some of your friendships will continue after graduation which is understandable. Before you go off to college I have one favor to ask of you. That is to not force the continuation of friendships after high school, especially with Yves. As soon as graduation was over, I was going those extra miles that she was not even willing to go herself for the friendship. What is worse is that I would make excuses for it just to make myself feel better, although I knew things were not going to be the same. Deep down I know you feel the same way too about the friendship. It went from talking every day to talking once a week, and then to talking only on holidays and birthdays. To think that someone you would consider your best friend would go to college and forget all about you after a year basically sucks. Even after two years nothing has changed and I still reached out to her to hang out during the breaks but she was always “too busy” to either reply to text message or came up with a reason as to why she was unable to hang out. After a while I got tired of being that person trying to mend a friendship, especially because I did not know what made it take a downfall. Basically what I am asking of you is to not believe her the days leading up to graduation when she insists that you and her will remain friends after graduation, she is lying to you. Don’t expect a lasting friendship with someone who is not willing to meet you half way.
Sincerely,
Junior

For my second assignment I decided to choose an animated gif assignment called Celebrating Too Early. I used references from Harry Potter and Finding Nemo for the gifs I have created. I did this assignment to help familiarize myself more with creating gifs. For the Harry Potter gif I used Imgur, since I was more comfortable using it and it allowed me 15 seconds to work with. For the Finding Nemo gif I used Giphy because Imgur was not allowing me to use the youtube link. The downside of Giphy is that it restricts you to only 10 seconds, but I am glad that there was an alternative to Imgur that still allowed me to get the job down.

…Now what?

A 10am Class?!?!?!?!?

When I first scheduled myself for CT101 at 10am I did not think that I would have trouble waking up for the first class, being that I took 8am classes before (which is worse by far). However, I was definitely wrong about waking up. On the first day I fell victim to the snooze button on my alarm and rolled over to continue sleeping. I basically had to rush to class because  I was running late. It sucks that we are not allowed to run in the hallways, guess its a safety issue.

Yikessssss

When I finally arrived to class and read the syllabus, I was excited to know what I would be doing during the semester. What stood out to me the most was the fact that I would eventually create my own website as well as monitor it. My website is going to be a great platform for me to collaborate with artists as well as display my most recent work, especially some photographs. I can’t wait to learn new things and apply them!!

Photography Makes Me Happy

Something that I have recently discovered on social media (Instagram) that is making me happy is this page called Mood Ports. On the page, portraits taken by various photographers are displayed. As an amateur photographer I like to look at the work of others for inspiration, as well as ways to improve my own work. Just to be able to view the pictures and see the deluge of emotions/feelings that are portrayed within them amazes me. https://www.instagram.com/moodyports/
