CT Overall

Im not going to lie, my friend chose this course for me and I had no idea what it was. On my first day when I walked into a room full of computers, you can imagine my surprise. I love the fact that this want a “pen and paper” class. It was more hands-on and I ended up learning things that will actually help me. Technology is a massive aspect of several career fields in this day in age. As a millennial, people expect me to know everything about computers and software and I wouldn’t call myself a lay person but I wasn’t an expert either. I learned things in this class that I had no idea a regular person could do like create complicated gifs and how long photoshopping could actually take. If you have been following my posts (I know many haven’t) one would see that makeup artistry is a business I wish to pursue. CT 101 has helped me come up with new ideas on how to promote my brand with my new website and with editing techniques I have learned, I think I have what it takes to start my very own youtube channel in a couple of months. Wish Me Luck !

There are several different aspects in cosmetology. From Special effects to stage makeup or even just a natural look, makeup can be very universal. Even some women that do not  wear makeup can testify to doing their eyebrows once in awhile. Some woman say it’s what “frames your face” and I consider it to be quite true. The key to a good makeup application is well shaped and sculpted brow. It has become sort of a trend for women You can leave the house with just threaded or filled in eyebrows. With this trend also comes training. You don’t simply get new eyebrows “overnight”. Believe it or not it takes practice and patience. No two brows are the same and that can be frustrating. Also, not everyone has the same shape. Perfect Eyebrows may take some trial and error but it’s amazing what a difference they can make I assure you. My specific favorite has to be the “Arched”.

By 1912, the final push for Women’s suffrage had already begun. Women such as Alice Paul and Lucy Burns used more direct approaches in order to reach their goal. They had watched the founders of the cause, such as Susan B Anthony die for the Woman’s rights movement  and decided that they would be the ones to make change happen. After being tired of waiting for each state to get this law passed one by one, They wanted to have it amended that all american citizens, regardless of sex, could vote. One movie that depicts this suffrage movement that went on in the United states is “Iron jawed angels”. The movie illustrates the hardships that women actually had to endure before they finally got the right to vote.

In the movie , After getting tired of being blown off and disrespected by the president at the time, Woodrow Wilson, the women of the NAWSA committee leaned towards using more radical tactics. They gave Alice and Lucy who were the main two women leading the movement the green light to conduct a parade on the day of the presidential inauguration. Thousands of people attended the parade and nobody was there to meet the president when he arrived. This made president Wilson look very Bad as he entered office. This parade ended in riots and the police would not protect the rights of the women being harmed. I find this parade  a very significant event during this movement. Women of all races came together from all over to support. The sorority that I am actually looking to be a part of even made their first public appearance at this parade on March 3, 1913. After being falsely accused of stealing from the NAWSA, Alice, Lucy and several other women broke away From NAWSA. Soon after, they founded the NWP (National Women’s Party) in 1916. After being ignored, they decided to picket and protest in front of the White House. They did this every day until their voices were heard. When the U.S. declared war and entered World War l ,and these women were still persistent in their battle for justice at home, people became more rowdy.

Since the push for women’s suffrage did in fact take place in midst a time of war, some  citizens disliked the fact that the women were picketing a Wartime president. These women were arrested and thrown into jail for not even committing any crimes. In jail they were mistreated. They were beaten, put in solitary for no reason and forced to eat even though they were on a hunger strike. They were not even provided clean water. When word got out of how these women were being treated, the president had to give in and write a bill for congress to vote on. Luckily, the bill was made an amendment and all women had the right to vote thereafter. Women were so persistent in their fight to gain suffrage because they knew that they deserved the same rights as men. Men and women were created equal so they should be seen equal in the eyes of the law. Men basically controlled women and they wanted better for themselves, their daughters, and their granddaughters. They didn’t want generations after them to have to deal with the same things they did. They did it because it was injustice and they wanted better for the future of all women. I think that after seeing all that women in the past have done to get us the rights that we have today. Women should be willing to fight even further for the equality of women to men. I think that with the rights that we do have. Surprisingly, there are still many ongoing battles pertaining to women’s equality that still go on today. Women still make 78 cents to every man’s dollar and have to fight to get a paid maternity leave. We now have even more resources than women had in the 1900s. Since we have successfully obtained the rights that we wanted, we can continue to work to make citizens, regardless of sex, equal.
