This post is directed specifically to women! Women are afraid of working out with weights from fear of gaining the stature of a body builder. I’m here to tell you that that will never happen unless you want it to happen. A body builder works endlessly towards having the bodies that they have. they achieve that body through tons of proteins, supplements, and even steroids. It’s impossible to just start lifting weights and obtain a body so sculpted. It’s impossible. Weight training is usually done after you’ve reached your desired weight goal. You may notice that you gain maybe 5 pounds back with weight training because you’re making your muscles more dense, so don’t feel as though you’re reverting back to gaining weight, you’re not. You’re gaining muscles. Don’t expect to get the abs you desire with just cardio. Cardio triggers fat while weights trigger muscles. I recommend you stay away from weight training or toning until you lose the weight you wanted because if you don’t muscles will build beneath the fat and you’ll only look bigger than you expected.

If you read my previous post on HIIT Cardio that is an alternative that combines weights with cardio and sometimes no weights just cardio. Try that out and you’ll end up toning while you lose weight without putting on too much muscles before burning fat.

My Gif Sentence

I tried something new. I tried to make a sentence out of animated gifs. I don’t know how successful I was, But I think that I did pretty good. If you can guess the sentence then you’re pretty awesome lol (it’s really not that hard). I got my gifs from giphy. it was hard because at first I wanted to find a gif for every single word, but that was just unrealistic. So, instead I just decided to go with a less complicated sentence and something that people can easily guess. The third and second to last two gifs got a little tricky, but I’m confident you’ll be able to understand it. What do you think this gif story is saying?

I have a gym membership at Lucille Roberts and instead of running on the treadmill for half an hour and lifting weights for another half an hour, I decided to try out one of the classes that they have offered, HIIT, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. this class was done anaeroboically. Let’s just say that this class is intense, and it makes you question how strong you really are. Since this class at Lucille Roberts is 45 minutes long you wont die (not literally) from the class, but you’ll definitely feel the pain in the morning. There’s no possible way that you can’t. What makes the class so difficult is because everything is done in short intense intervals which means the body is going non-stop with rare appearances of a break. That helps in keeping the heart rate up, and the body heated. When there are breaks, they aren’t abrupt. They flow into the exercise so you’re not shocking your system by just stopping for a water break. In my class we focused mostly on the abs. With regular crunches, curl-ups and bicycle crunches and a couple more exercises. I suggest you try this class because it’s better than basic cardio simply because while you’re losing weight you’re toning as well. It’s a win-win!

Meditation

Within a week I did something I only considered doing once in a while three times. I meditated. It actually takes a lot of focus and concentration to meditate. It helped a lot that the past week has been rainy and bleak. That’s the only time that I can meditate because to me I feel at my most relaxed when I’m in my house, my room has a slight chill and I can hear the rain cascading down onto the window sill. The first time that I meditated I went onto YouTube then searched “anxiety meditation,” I found this one of a lady’s voice talking me through my meditation. I searched anxiety meditation because I’ve been told by doctors that I suffer from anxiety on and off, it’s nothing severe but if I don’t figure out my stressors it can become severe. The lady on the recording spoke about letting any anxious behaviors and thoughts go and to focus on my breathing. I thought it was the perfect guided meditation because I tend to have tightness in my neck and chest when I start to get anxious and the breathing exercises worked really well for me.

The second time that I meditated last week I did a YouTube search again, this time I searched “guided meditation.” This time after I did my search, I found this video that was an hour long, of a man this time, who was really into the concept of meditation I found myself at my most relaxed during this meditation. The guy’s voice was surprisingly very soothing and he was talking about all sorts of things that I don’t know about, like “my third eye” and my “chi” and releasing any tension I had into the “ether.” Although I was confused, I was still so relaxed and in that moment I was relieved of all of my stress, and for some reason it made me really tired. It probably didn’t help the matter that I was on my back, laying down and meditating this time instead of sitting up. I fell asleep at he midpoint of the video and woke up feeling so rejuvenated. Did I mention that I’m never able to sleep during the day no matter the circumstance? Well, I fell asleep at two in the afternoon and it felt amazing.

The third and final time that I meditated last week, it was to the same guided meditation as the second time and. I was really determined to finish it. I didn’t want to fall asleep this time because I remembered that the instructor on the video was telling me to do something with my tension and pass it through my third eye or something like that (I’m probably really wrong about my interpretation of the meditation, but let’s just go with passing the tension through your third eye). This time I finished the guided meditation and I’m happy I did. It feels like a weight off of your shoulders when you’re at least temporarily relieved from stress. I’m going to meditate more often, maybe even every time that it rains. I love the feeling of relief, so I’m going to keep doing it.

The Sound Project

The sound project was really interesting. It’s the first time that we had to rely on each other in this class and it turned out surprisingly well. “The Lion’s Cage” was the perfect video to work with because all of the movements were already exaggerated. All we had to do was make enough noise to match the movements and fill the allotted time. My group had the last couple of minutes and it was mostly dialog between people so we didn’t know which noises to make that was remotely conversational. We winged it (to say the least lol). Overall, it was a fun project and was fun enough to peak my curiosity and make me want to try it again eventually, but first, I have to find which video I want to do it to.
